Ladder-backed Woodpecker

Photographed in the Huachuca Mountains, Southeast Arizona.  The Ladder-backed is common in dry brushlands, mesquite and cactus country. Its range includes much of the Southwest United States and Mexico.

Northern Flicker

Photographed in Southeast Arizona.  The Northern Flicker can be found throughout North America and Mexico, it is common in open woodlands and suburban areas.

Red-naped Sapsucker

Photographed in Ramsey Canyon, Southeast Arizona.  The Red-naped Sapsucker is common in deciduous and mixed forests in the Great Basin and Rocky Mountain ranges.

Arizona Woodpecker

Photographed in Ramsey Canyon, Southeast Arizona.  The Arizona Woodpecker is an uncommon resident in foothills and mountains, generally found in oak or pine-oak forests or canyons.

Downy Woodpecker

Photographed in Lexington Park Maryland. The Downy Woodpecker is common, throughout the United States, often seen in suburbs, parklands, and orchards.   

Red-bellied Woodpecker

Photographed in Lexington Park Maryland. The Red-bellied Woodpecker is common throughout the Eastern United States, often seen in suburbs and parks. 

Lewis's Woodpecker

Photographed in Rocky Mountains Colorado.  The Lewis's Woodpecker is uncommon to fairly common in open woodlands of interior.

Hairy Woodpecker

Photographed in Rocky Mountains Colorado.  The Hairy Woodpecker is fairly common, inhabiting both open and dense forest throughout the United States.

Gila Woodpecker

Photographed in San Pedro Riparian Area Southeast Arizona.  The Gila Woodpecker inhabits towns, scrub desert, cactus country and streamside woodlands. Range is primarily Southern Arizona into Mexico .

Acorn Woodpecker

Photographed in Ramsey Canyon, Southeast Arizona.  The Acorn Woodpecker is common in oak woods or pine forests where oak trees are abundant. Found throughout Southeast Arizona.

Williamson's Sapsucker

Photographed in the Huachuca Mountains, Southeast Arizona.  The Williamson's Sapsucker is common in dry piney forests of the western mountains, and moves south in the winter.
